The passing of John Manchester Hetherington "Kingfisher" of Waasis, NB occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the age of 92. Born in Mary Port, Cockermouth, England on September 5, 1924, he was a son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Manchester) Hetherington.

John was affiliated with the Anglican Church. John came to Canada in 1930 on the HM Lititia. He served with the British Merchant Marines during W.W.II retiring in 1944 as an Able Seaman. From 1945 to 1951 he worked with NB Hydro Co. and from 1951 to 1955 he was a logger on the Queen Charlotte Islands. John was a Construction Foreman with NB Power from 1959 to 1983. Once retired, John took up farming raising Beef Cattle.

John is survived by his daughter Nancy P. Hetherington of Waasis and his son, Paul J. Hetherington (Nance A.) of Rusagonis. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Matthew Robin Hetherington (Tilla), Cholene Ogilvie (Steven) and Cole Stewart (Courtney) as well as 7 much loved great-grandchildren, Mason, Kayden, Alex, Autumn, Chase, Tatum and Willow. John is also survived by a brother, Dennis Armstrong (Jeanne) of Waasis;  sisters-in-law, Marie Hetherington and Ardith Hetherington; chosen daughters, Shirley Rowan and Rosemary Bateman; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aside from his parents, John was predeceased by his wife Emily Vera (Dwyer) Hetherington in 2003, a son Thomas and brothers William, Bob and Reuben (late Mildred).

Respecting John’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside committal service will be held at the Waasis Cemetery on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.
