It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Donald (Don) Sullivan, on September 11th, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Jillian, daughter Helen, son Elliot (Michelle), grandchildren Sadie and Griffin, brother Colin (Brenda), and sisters Pattie, Anne (Alan), and Maureen (Keith).  He was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie, sister Collette, and brothers, Bernard, John and Peter.

He was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, on March 23, 1936, where he attained his early education. He later attended the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he obtained a Ph.D. in mathematics in 1960. In 1961, he married and immigrated to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, to begin his career in the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of New Brunswick. During his tenure he taught thousands of students, wrote two textbooks and numerous research papers. After 40 years as a dedicated and respected professor, he retired in 2001.

A proud son of Wales, he was a member of the Central New Brunswick Welsh Society and participant in their choir. An animal lover, he could often be met walking his dogs around the neighborhood, and was a keen supporter of animal welfare. He passed peacefully with his family by his side and his dog curled up on his bed.

A service will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2016, at the Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, New Brunswick, at 2:00 pm. The Very Rev’d Geoffrey Hall will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, or the Fredericton SPCA.
