It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charley McCarthy announces his passing on Tuesday August 23, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Montreal, PQ, on August 21, 1936, a son of the late Jeremiah and Azelda McCarthy.

Charley served with the RCMP for 39 years, retiring in 1995, the last 15 years with the Internal Investigations Unit. He thoroughly loved his profession and had a great passion for honesty and truth. Throughout his career he was stationed in many areas of the Province and the travel took him to many a side and back roads where he and his wife Agnes loved to go. An avid Expos fan, he played softball, but more so involved with Umpiring for many years from Senior Ball down to the Minor Little Leagues, Umpiring in many Provincial Tournaments. Charley loved the NFL Football League with no significant allegiance, but could not be stumped when it came to team or individual statistics. His greatest passion was to be able to watch his grandchildren play hockey.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Agnes (Simpson); children Jerry (Mary), Patrick (Krista), Shawnee (Walter), Kelly-Sue (Ian); 8 grandchildren Matthew, Tony, Kortnie, Justin, Kalem, Robbyn, Christopher, Nicholas; 4 great grandchildren Natalia, Matteo, Carter, Ella; a brother John (Georgette); nieces Kathleen, Peggy; as well as extended family in Quebec.

Visitation will be held from 6 – 9 PM on Thursday August 25, 2016 and 10 – 12 noon on Friday August 26, 2016 at Bishops Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. A celebration of Charley’s life will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM Friday with Rev. Monte Peters officiating, followed by cremation. A reception will be held at the Holy Family Parish Church Hall 1500 Hanwell Road, immediately following the service.
