The passing of Rose (Kerton) Charters occurred peacefully at the Paradise Villa, Fredericton on August 17, 2016 at the age of 92. Born on July 17, 1924 in Rhymney, Wales, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lily (Price) Kerton and wife of the late Kenneth William Charters.

Rose immigrated to Charters Settlement in 1929 and later met and married her husband Ken in 1944. Earlier in her life, in addition to being a busy wife and mother, Rose was an active member of St. Mary the Virgin Church and the ACW, New Maryland.

Rose loved to knit during her entire life, having been taught the craft by a special school teacher. Her favorite athletic activity for many years was swimming with Fredericton’s Silver Dolphins. Her love for travel when the opportunity arose, took her to such places as England, Wales, Greece, Maine, Tennessee, Florida and Western Canada accompanied by her children and/or special friends. Her odd jobs over the years included school "bus" driver, ice cream scooper at the Fredericton Exhibition, sweater knitter for Cottage Craft of St. Andrews, poll worker for both federal and provincial elections, and as she well put it "anything to bring in a few extra dollars". Rose was famous for her homemade rolls and baked beans, but being an avid berry picker her homemade pies and jams were also near the top of the list.

Survived by daughters Carolyn (Jack) Connor of Wilmington, OH, Ruth (Vince) Lemke of Kelowna, BC, Gayle of Charters Settlement; sons Kenneth (Diana) of Charters Settlement, Mark (Jennifer) of Charters Settlement; grandchildren Tara Scholten, Trent Jones, Dana Haller, Duane Lemke, Julie Charters, Jesse Charters, and Jeremy Charters; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her fifteen siblings.

Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Monday August 22, 2016 from 7 PM to 9 PM, a service celebrating Rose’s life will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2016 at 2 PM from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel, 540 Woodstock Road with Rev.
