It is with sadness the family of Reta May Derrah announce her passing at the Oromocto Public Hospital, a few hours short of her 91st birthday on June 8, 2016. Reta was born June 9, 1925 at Barker’s Point, NB, a daughter of the late Robert and Edith Hughes.

Reta worked in the legal profession with Limerick and Hoyt Law Firm as a Legal Secretary for a number of years and then with the NB Dept. of Transportation and ended her working career as Executive Assistant to Minister Wilfred Bishop.

Reta loved spending time at her cottage at Grand Lake, NB. She was a member of the Greenwood Drive Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member of the "Willing Hands" Ministry at the Church. She was also a member of the Marysville Royal Canadian Legion and her involvement as a member of the Barker’s Point Women’s Institute was an important part of her life.

Reta leaves behind a daughter, Karen Forsyth (Bob) of Lethbridge, AB; grandchildren, Robert (Marianne) of Lethbridge, Krista Forsyth of Chestermere, AB and Jeffrey (Melissa) of Lethbridge; great-grandchildren, Dylan, MacKenzie, Claire and Jackson; a brother Donald Hughes (Isabel) of Fredericton; a sister Shirley Koshowski of Lincoln, NB; a sister-in-law Rose Hughes of Fredericton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aside from her parents and husband Clarence Derrah, sisters Marguerite Gautreau, Bernice McIntyre, Doris Estey, Noreen Mullenger and a brother Robert Hughes all predeceased her.

The family will receive visitors at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Saturday June 11, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

A service celebrating Reta’s life will be held from Greenwood Drive Baptist Church on Sunday June 12, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Gordon Cook officiating. Interment in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Donations can be made in memory of Reta to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a favorite charity of your choice.
