It is with great sadness the family of Kenneth A. Fraser announce his passing at the Veterans Health Unit, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, November 14, 2015. Ken was born in Matapedia, Quebec on December 15, 1918, the 5th of seven children, to Alexander Cameron Fraser and Janie Wells Babcock. Ken learned the meaning of hard work growing up on the farm and continued that throughout his lifetime.
In April of 1940 he enlisted in the RCAF-Marine Squadron (Eastern Air Command) and spent the next 4 years of WW II on a motor torpedo vessel in Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, along the shores of Nova Scotia, Gaspe Coast and the St. Lawrence River.
After the war, Ken went to Forestry School in Fredericton and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He went to work for the Federal Government in forestry and was part of the first budworm study in New Brunswick and Quebec. He was also employed by Central Trust where he attained his Appraiser’s Licence. His next employment was with the NB Provincial Government with Supply and Services from which he retired in 1978. After retiring, Ken and his late wife Lib spent their summers at Grand Lake and winters in Florida until 1993.
Ken was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed greatly. He was the last member of his immediate family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife M. Elizabeth MacLaggan, siblings Gordon(Alice), Harry(Vivian), Bruce, Grace(Irving) Harrison, Cameron(Patricia) and Frances(Abner) Biard, and infant step granddaughter Debra Cain.
He is survived by his daughter Jane(Scott) Hall, his son(stepson) Doug (Barb) Cain, 4 step grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Donald (Mary) MacLaggan, niece Elaine (Bill) Morris, nephews Dale (Diane) Fraser, Brian Fraser, Laine Fraser, and cousins Laura Lawlor and Archie(Georgina) Babcock.
The family wish to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Veterans Health Unit for the care and compassion given to Ken over the last 4 years. Also, thank you to the members of the various Legions who gave of their time on Saturday afternoons to visit with all the veterans.
There will be no visitation or funeral at Ken’s request. A private service will be held at a later date.
