At the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on October 5, 2008, Bert Cairns age 76 of Fredericton, NB passed away peacefully. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late James and Janet (Bertram) Cairns.

Bert served with the Royal Canadian Service Corps in the Korean War in Churchill NWT., Egypt, Germany and other parts of Europe retiring from the military in 1965. He then went to work for Atmus Equipment and later with Fredericton City Transit until his retirment. Bert was a 35 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15, Marysville as well as a life member.

Survived by his wife of 49 years Joyce (Munn) Cairns; three children Angela Cairns (Roger) of Fredericton, Ron Cairns (Cindy) of Toronto, and Clara Elliott (Wilbur) of Fredericton; special grandson Ronald Elliott of Fredericton; sister Jean Eddington of Hanwell Road; several nieces and nephews; special friends Ralph Beek (Genevieve), Fraser Stafford (Betty), Willis McAlwee (Helena), and Gary Keddy. Predeceased by a brother Jim Cairns.

A tribute in Bert’s memory will be held on Sunday October 12, 2008, where family and friends may gather at the Marysville Legion, 60 Veterans Drive from 2-4 PM. Internment will be held in the Doaktown Pentecostal Cemetery on Sunday at 5:30 PM. Memorials may be made to the Marysville Legion
branch # 15 Poppy Fund.
